The Farm- Day 8

This is how Roman has been spending much of his time, trains, trucks and books; that is when he's not cruising on his bike. I can only send one pic at a time from my phone so I will post again with a pic of Roman feeding carrots to the horses. Thy were so friendly and he really enjoyed it.
We've been enjoying the weather, the woods, the walks and the peace and quiet. Our rental house is on a piece of land surrounded by trees with no TV or computer; it's been a nice break.
We're going to bed early tonight because my belly is starting to feel a little tight... :)

Today we passed the time with a trip to the Nashville Zoo. It was a cute zoo and a lot of fun. And, yes, Gene pushed me around in a wheelchair because my back was worse again today and I can't walk very far or fast. Surely a sign that baby is getting close. Remember, Roman didn't come for another week yet...
Heres a video of Roman passing the time in the car making us sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat."

Today we drove about 1.5 hours to Athens, AL to pick Daddy up from the bus. We decided he should come up a couple days early, and I'm glad because today my back has gotten so painful I can barely walk. I have a chiro appt today and hopefully that will help.
Baby has moved down a little more an might be pinching a nerve, otherwise it is simply a stretched muscle due to the additional hormones relaxing and stretching the ligaments in my pelvis.
While waiting for Daddy, we found an old parking lot with a cool dump truck and we also did a little practice driving, what fun!

Well, my back hurts a little more today. I'm starting to wish Gene was here as it is becoming difficult to walk around and play with Roman. Thank goodness he is so good at occupying himself!
On the bright side, today Ina May asked if I would be willing to be part of a story in the New York Times. Apparently, they're doing a big story and her and the midwives at The Farm, and they've even sent a photographer down here to follow Ina May around and even take photos during a birth. Well, MY birth might just be the one that they put in he story. Just a timing thing I guess, its already a big treat just knowing that Ina May herself will be with me during labor.

Roman has been enjoying our large tub. He is excited each night to take his bubble bath and play and swim.
Today Pamela checked me, no dilation but cervix is soft and ready to go. Baby has moved down a bit and that may be why I'm having some lower back discomfort.
Today was also a big day because I got to meet Ina May Gaskin herself. She started attending births in the 70's here in TN, she is now a world renowned midwife who has written several books and lectures all over the world. The birth statistics here at The Farm are better than any hospital with a C-section rate of only 1.4%. Where we live in AL it is over 40%.
Their infant outcomes and maternal mortality rates are far better too. They rarely need to transfer anyone to the hospital, but when they do they are skilled in life saving techniques such as neonatal resuscitation. So, if you any of you were concerned, don't be, we're in very capable hands here.

Roman and I were tired after our long trip, except because I was too tired To put up his bed rail, I woke up a lot worried he might be too close to the edge. The house we're staying in is very nice. It is newly remodeled to include a large bathroom and a deep whirlpool tub.
Today I had another prenatal exam, everything was A-ok. Roman and I spent most of the day walking in the woods while he rode his bike. We also met with Laura's homeschool play group, which was a lot of fun- except for the ticks! I had several seed ticks on me that night, but they're harmless, although their bites itch for days.
Laura helped Roman set up his train set and he has been having a lot of in with that.

Sunday, March 18
After spending the morning at the Montgomery Zoo, Roman ad I made our way up to Summertown, TN. It was only about 4 hours from Montgomery and Roman did great.
When we for here we met with Pamela Hunt, my midwife, and her assistant, Laura. They helped us get settled and we talked a little about our plans for the week.
